Fine Art & Antique Appraisals

Joan H. McVicker, ISA is an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers.  In order to accurately document the value of your works of fine art, always rely on a trained, tested and qualified professional appraiser who participates in continuing education.  An inaccurate appraisal can be a costly mistake.  Clients are provided with a detailed report documenting the description and value of the property under consideration.  In preparing these reports Ms. McVicker uses different valuation approaches tailored to the specific appraisal need of the client. These appraisal purposes include, but are not limited to:

  • Obtaining adequate insurance coverage
  • Insurance loss or damage claims
  • Estate settlements
  • Equitable distribution
  • Divorce
  • Non-cash charitable donations for IRS
  • Valuation for re-sale
  • Valuation prior to purchase

Appraisal fees are billed on a scheduled hourly rate and is never related to the value of the property being appraised.   Charges vary depending on the scope of work to be done, research time, documentation required and travel expenses, if any.  Upon the Appraiser's initial inspection, you will be given a quote of estimated fees and expenses.  A retainer fee for time spent on-site (2 hour minimum) is to be paid by the client upon completion of the Appraiser’s inspection of property.  The balance due is payable in full upon delivery of the Appraisal Report.

Verbal Approximation of Value Fees are charged per item or flat rate for more than one item.  It is important to note that Verbal Approximations of Value are not appraisals.  The appraiser provides a value based upon her judgement and personal observations without the benefit of conducting proper research.  Decisions to buy or sell property should not be made from the information gained in this manner.  However, a verbal approximation of value may be appropriate if a client is just curious about the value of an item.

On-line Appraisals will be considered on a case to case basis.  Several detailed images and information regarding signatures, markings, condition and media will be needed to provide an accurate result. Email Appraisals@PrivateArtCollection.com to discuss this appraisal option.
